Groo Vs. Conan Is Only Act One

Article Image bf94One has to wonder what to think when seeing Dark Horse Comics Groo Vs. Conan #1 (MAY140038) in the May PREVIEWS catalog. The bumbling idiot versus the brawny barbarian? Purists, of course, will say the sky is falling. But for those in the room that like to be entertained, and don’t allow themselves to get bogged down by quantum physics of continuity, let us appeal to you, and stand in front of the chalkboard so that we may go over this step-by-step.

The new equation reads like this: 1 + 1 = you ain't seen nothing yet.

As of this year’s WonderCon, Eisner winners Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier announced there was a much bigger picture to look at past this Groo/Conan mini-series. The goal is to give readers well over a year’s worth of Groo stories, as a 12-issue series titled Friends and Foes will follow on the heels of the Cimmerian against the Wanderer.

It seems the time has come for Groo to once again take the spotlight for an extended period of time. Not since the 100+ issues that were published by Marvel’s “Epic” imprint in the 1980s have we seen plans for Groo that would include him reuniting with Arcadio, the witches Arba and Dakarba, Captain Ahax, and Granny Groo.

So Dark Horse, it seems, has big plans for Groo. And what better way to make everyone pay attention than to pit him against Robert E. Howard’s invincible  barbarian?

Sit back with your cup of mead, snuggle up next to a damsel in distress, and watch as blades clash in Groo Vs. Conan #1 from Dark Horse Comics.
