Staff Picks (Apr14): Sally of the Wasteland #1
Mar 19, 2014
Publisher: Titan Comics
Have you ever had a crush on somebody who didn’t notice? Did that person then have to go on a dangerous journey into the post-apocalyptic, radioactive, mutated, wasteland and you were faced with the choice of whether to risk losing them by staying put or risk dying by going with them? Sure, we’ve all been there, right?
Sally is just one of maybe a few thousand or so people still managing to survive in the harsh future of what was once the Unites States. After “The Fall,” the animals of the world have either died off or horribly mutated into dangerous beasts with no fear of humans. And in all of this chaos, Sally is a young woman with a sharp tongue and a knack for firearms just trying to get by in a savage world while hopelessly in love with her good friend Tommy. When a stranger shows up in town with a mission that could possibly save the world, Tommy can’t help but join the adventure across the wasteland and Sally can’t help but follow Tommy.
Sally of the Wasteland is the type of world where The Book of Eli meets Godzilla’s petting zoo, all in the spirit of Army of Darkness. The audience is brought along to laugh as Sally speaks her mind, strange characters cause trouble, and mutant creatures then tear them apart. It’s all in good fun, and it’s the end of the world as we know it… so why wouldn’t it be?
