The original Star Trek episode "Mirror Mirror" featured Kirk, Bones, Uhura, and Scotty accidentally beaming into an alternate reality populated with evil doppelgangers of the characters we know and love. Additionally, we meet a Spock that sports a deviously sinister goatee. The episode aired back in 1967 during the second season of Star Trek, and while I was not alive when it aired I did grow up with a steady diet of Star Trek: The Next Generation which inevitably acted as a gateway to the original series.
The episode concludes with Kirk challenging Mirror Universe Spock to take command and to lead their version of the Federation called the Terran Empire down a better path. This episode always captivated my imagination and I always wondered what happened in the Mirror Universe after our Kirk, Bones, Uhura, and Scotty returned to their rightful universe. Sure, we got a few Deep Space Nine episodes and some novels set in the Mirror Universe but they always left me wanting more.
In the March PREVIEWS IDW will expand on the Mirror Universe with a new photonovel book by John Byrne. Star Trek fans will remember Bryne's first photonovel entry into the Star Trek mythos, Star Trek Strange New Worlds, which created a new episode in the original series and was in stores last December. Star Trek New Visions #1: The Mirror, Cracked will pick up right after the events in the classic Star Trek episode. Loyalties will be tested, alliances forged, and questions will be answered.
Be sure to pick up Star Trek New Visions #1: The Mirror, Cracked on shelves this May or you'll be sent to the agony booth!
