Billy Martin Talks Vitriol at San Diego Comic Con
Jul 25, 2013
For some rock stars, life on the road keeps you confined on a steel bus where you trade stories and ideas for songs before the next hotel. Imagine the fun when you're not only moving a suitcase, but art supplies as well. This was the life for Good Charlotte guitarist Billy Martin. We caught up with the rocker at San Diego Comic Con so that we could talk about his new comic series from IDW Publishing, Vitriol The Hunter.
"This is a labor of love for me. I've been working on this book for years. I brought it all over the place with me on tour. Every country we've been in I had my art supplies and my computer and I was just...drawing. I've been drawing my whole life." Comics, we learned, had been just as much a part of his past as Saturday morning cartoons. Billy explains that "it was really right around when the Image thing hit" that he was soon hypnotized by titles like Spawn, WildC.A.T.S., and Shadowhawk.
And despite tour schedules and juggling family life in between it all, he still goes to the comic shops to buy books at every opportunity. A die-hard comics fan, his new book Vitriol The Hunter is his initial effort in illustrating for the comics medium. Check out the above YouTube video to see more of Billy talk about his passion for comics, and why this book is far from being wrapped up in a limited series.
