Of particular note from this week's report is Avatar: The Last Airbender Volume 1 and Volume 2 TPs. Based on the animated television series that aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon (2005 to 2008), Avatar: The Last Airbender clinched awards from the Annual Annie Awards, the Genesis Awards, primetime Emmy awards, and a Peabody Award. The property also became a live-action film directed by M. Night Shyamalan, as well as a line of scaled action figures, a TCG, video games, and LEGO sets.

Also of keen interest this week from DC Comics is the Batman Knightfall Volume 1 TP. This book is now incredibly hot because of the new film in movie theaters, The Dark Knight Rises, which features Knightfall's villain, Bane.

A storyline that dominated the spring and summer of 1993, "Knightfall" was the start of a trilogy that also included the "Knightquest" and "KnightsEnd" sagas. As Bruce Wayne was replaced by Azrael, the ripple effect that resulted from the "Knight Saga" included a distrust from the public, Gotham's police force, and superhero contemporaries. Not only has the Knight Saga maintained its popularity among fans for years, but it has led DC Comics to support a merchandising line for the storyline, as well as an audio adaptation of the story.

Our final in-depth look is at DC/Vertigo's Transmetropolitan Volume 1: Back On The Street TP. Fans of Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson's classic cyberpunk sci-fi opus will transcend the ages simply because they continue to grow like a virus! Spider would be proud! Known to be a homage to gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. Spider Jerusalem battled corruption and abuse of governmental power with his "filthy assistants" and a trusty bowel disruptor. Their battlefield: a dystopian future, which Spider chastised in his articles as unbearably liberal, self-centered, and consumed by current events.

The monthly series from Vertigo began in 1997 and came to its conclusion in 2003, and it has continually been in print since its inception via trade paperbacks, and subsequent standalone volumes titled I Hate It Here and Filth of the City. Yes, fans have been treated to Spider in plastic. The question, though, is when will we see our gonzo writer on the big screen played by Johnny Depp?
