Possessing the power of the Phoenix Force, Cyclops and his allies began to remake the world in their image in Jonathan Hickman and Olivier Coipel's Avengers Vs. X-Men #6, the latest chapter of Marvel Comics' 2012 event and the best-selling comic book to comics retailers in June.

In total, Marvel Comics had four the month's top-selling books. Avengers Vs. X-Men #5 ranked #2; Spider-Men #1, the first part of Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli's Marvel Universe/Ultimate Universe crossover story for Spider-Man's fiftieth anniversary, ranked #9; and AVX Vs. #3, an Avengers Vs. X-Men tie-in comics, rannked #10.

DC Comics had six books in the top ten, led by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's Batman #10, part of the "Night of the Owls" event, at #10. Geoff Johns and Jim Lee's Justice League #10 was #4. DC Comics' other four titles in the top ten were part of the Before Watchmen project — Before Watchmen: Minutemen #1 ranked #5, Before Watchmen: The Comedian #1 ranked #6, Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre #1 ranked #7, and Before Watchmen: Nite Owl #1 ranked #8.

Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's best-selling series from Image Comics, The walking Dead, continued its march to its hundredth issue with June's The Walking Dead #99. The zombie comic ranked #30 for June.

IDW Publishing brought Topps' fan-favorite Mars Attacks trading cards back to comics with Mars Attacks #1 from John Layman (Chew) and John McCrea (Hitman); the book ranked #44 for the month.

Rounding out the premier publishers, the adventures of Joss Whedon's Slayer, Buffy Summers, continued in June's Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #10 which ranked #89.

Rick Grimes and his band of survivors continued their desperate search for safety and civilization in the wake of the zombie apocalypse in Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead Volume 16: A Larger World from Image Comics, the best-selling graphic novel in June. The first volume of the series, The Walking Dead: Days Gone Bye, ranked #8. Also from Image Comics, Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Fatale Volume 1: Death Chases Me placed in the top ten at #8 and Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma's Morning Glories Volume 3: P.E. ranked #10.

Ranking #2 for the month was Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen III: Century #3: 2009 from Top Shelf Productions. This long-awaited graphic novel also topped the month's Indie and Small Press graphic novel sales charts.

DC Comics had four titles in the top ten, led by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen at #3 as interest in the graphic novel increased thanks to DC's new Before Watchmen comics. Also in the top ten were Batman: Detective Comics Volume 1: Faces of Death at #5, Batwoman Volume 1: Hydrology at #7, and, from the publisher's Vertigo imprint, DMZ Volume 12: The Five Nations of New York at #9.

Rounding out the top ten was Dynamite Entertainment with Garth Ennis and Russell Braun's The Boys Volume 11: Over the Hill with the Swords of a Thousand Men at #4.

The collected edition of X-Men: Schism, the storyline that split the venerable team in two, was Marvel Comics' best-selling graphic novel at #13.

Dark Horse Comics' top graphic novel in June was the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off Angel & Faith Volume 1: Live Through This at #15.

Rounding out the premier publishers, IDW Publishing's top graphic novel was the David Mazzucchelli: Daredevil Born Again Artist Edition at #30.

The shops are primarily located in North America, with a percentage of sales also to international stores and buyers located throughout the world. The account base includes not only brick-and-mortar comic book specialty shops, but also Internet stores, chain stores, and other specialty stores.

Unit sales are calculated based upon orders invoiced and shipped to Diamond accounts during any given month, minus any copies that are distributed free of cost.
