Magnetic Press has established a renowned track record for introducing some of the most exciting and visually dynamic new talent from around the world to North American comic shelves – Bengal (Naja, Batgirl, Spider-Gwen), Eisner nominees Tony Sandoval (Doomboy, A Glance Backward) and Federico Bertolucci (the LOVE series), LRNZ (Golem), Djet (Poet Anderson), and the highly-anticipated debut of this month’s Klaw by Joel Jurion.  That pattern of excellence continues in July with the release of WARSHIP JOLLY ROGER, created by artist Miquel Montllo and written by Sylvain Runberg.

This hard-edged, sci-fi epic follows a band of criminals turned interstellar pirates in search of vengeance and redemption.  With a lush, visual style reminiscent of feature-quality 2D animation, this explosive tale unfolds like a summer blockbuster in print.  The look is directly attributable to Montllo’s years designing concept art and storyboards in the animation and video game industries, most recently (and currently) with Oscar-nominated animation studio Cartoon Saloon (The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea). WARSHIP is his first full-length graphic novel project.

The 120-page, 8.5x11” hardcover volume contains the first two chapters in the four-part series, introducing readers to the cast of anti-heroes out for justice.  This epic tale of action and political intrigue combines an emotional depth and excitement that will appeal to fans of sci-fi favorites such as “Battlestar Galactica,” “Starship Troopers,” and anime classic “Captain Harlock.”
