Control Is More Than Just Hitting The Target

Article Image 6bd6Meet Detective-Sergeant Kate Burnham. She isnt' making any friends in the Washington DC Police Department, which makes her a perfect scapegoat for a routine homicide investigation that reveals dirt on DC's power elite. Things can go very wrong very fast when in you're in wrong place at the wrong time. Which is why we want to let writers Andy Diggle and Angela Cruickshank say a few words about their new project, and how they're excited about this tale that shows what happens when the people on the streets begin to push back.

PREVIEWSworld: Andy and Angela, you're bringing the intense politically-charged police procedural Control #1 (APR161504) to comics in June. Let's first take a look at Kate Burnham, the core character of the series. How would  yuo describe her?

Andy Diggle: Kate's a detective-sergeant in the Washington DC Police Department, and she's been there long enough to know that just being good at your job isn't necessarily enough to get you to the top. She's a very private person, and in order to make her way in a tough business, she's had to build a protective wall around herself, which can make her seem a little stand-offish.

Article Image b5cfAngela Cruickshshank: Kate's partner describes her as a "mystery inside an enigma wrapped in a Versace trouser suit." And it winds him up! We live in a world where people think nothing of sharing every part of their lives in public via social media. Everyone wants to be on TV, to be a celebrity, and to be seen.

And so we get suspicious when somebody doesn't play ball.

Kate's colleagues, the media, everyone wants to know ... what does she have to hide?

Andy Diggle: Fortunately, she doesn't particularly give a damn what others think of her, as long as she gets the job done. She's not one for playing political games. Which could prove to be a problem, given the city she's in.
