Monstress Probes The Beast Within

Writer Marjorie Liu and artist Sana Takeda team up to create an ongoing adventure set in an alternate 1900s Asia with Monstress #1 (SEP150509), in which a deformed girl who has a psychic bond to monsters may become one herself. Much to the detriment of those who want to control her.

The story isn't pretty, so put on your game face. It takes place in the early 1900s, where immense Leviathans roam the Earth, and those who want to stay at the top of the food chain exploit all angles so that they remain predators, and not prey.

Enter one young women who doesn't appear to be much of a threat as she's already been robbed of the use of one arm.

The discovery that she has a psychic bond with leviathans roaming the Earth makes her of use to those aristocrats that will do whatever it takes to remain removed from the problems at large. As Europe has been gutted by monstrosities outside their walls, all bets are off for the protection and regard of civil rights. It's kill or be killed for those in the establishment that want to maintain their comfort and privileges without interruption.

So exploiting a young girl's talent is of no consquence, and not even worth discussing. So they think. Which is their mistake. Because their little experiment is a human being. And appearances can be deceiving.

The young girl's power may redeem the planet, saving it from the Lord of the all the Leviathans. But it could also destroy it.

And there's no backup plan if things go to Hell.

Wouldn't it be nice to see those who are so comfortable in their superiority squirm like worms should their world fall apart?
