The Dark Underbelly of Rachel Rising

Terry Moore is one of those creator names that’s always being dropped on the convention floor. And for good reason. He’s been an independent writer/artist whose contemporaries include Dave Sim and Jeff Smith. His resume shows that his Strangers In Paradise comic book which he published through his own company, Abstract Studios, dates back to 1993—waaaaaaaay back in the day when collectors were jumping through hoops to buy every variant and holofoil cover they could get their hands on before they disappeared forever. So, yeah, he’s seen some things in his time. And he‘s had his share of side jobs, writing for the big boys when a gig came up that let him work on books like Lady Supreme, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Birds of Prey, and The Darkness/Vampirella to name a few.

But its Rachel Rising that is his passion these days, as — to his surprise — it’s one of the hottest books he’s been able to produce.

“I have 18 issues out, and I can’t believe it’s been that many this fast. It seems like I just started it last year. The big news for us this year is that Alcon Entertainment — which is a television/movie company — they’re really determined to make a TV pilot, and see if they can get it on air.”
