San Diego Comic Con 2013 — Kevin Eastman Talks Comics and Hero Initiative

We were able to catch up with Heavy Metal publisher and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creator Kevin Eastman while he signed books and posters. Kevin was more than willing to multitask, and didn’t pull punches as he laid out that he was the luckiest guy in the world.

“It’s the best job on the planet,” he said. “If I wasn’t doing this, I’d be pushing a shopping cart somewhere probably. But still doing head sketches for people.”

Eastman has been pushing the envelope on Heavy Metal for well over twenty years, and while he talked with us and drew sketches for the fans, he also pointed out that he was supporting the Hero Initiative at his booth. He believed that he stood on the shoulders of giants, and if it wasn’t for creators like Jack Kirby or John Severin, comics wouldn’t be where they are today.

Check out the interview, and see Kevin lay out his case for why its all about taking risks...and paying it forward.
