Top 50 Non-Premier Comics and Graphic Novels: December 2012

Hero battles hero in a fight to the death in Paul Jenkins and Carlos Megno's Deathmatch #1 from BOOM! Studios, the best-selling Non-Premier Comic Book in December. Also in the top ten for BOOM! Studios were Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake #1 at #2 and Adventure Time: Marceline and the Scream Queens #6 at #5, both from their all-ages KaBOOM! imprint.

Dynamite Entertainmenthad two of the month's top ten Non-Premier comics — Masks #2 ranked #3 and Vampirella Strikes #1 ranked #6.

Valiant Entertainment rounded out the top ten with five titles. Shadowman #2 ranked #4, Archer & Armstrong #5 ranked #7, X-O Manowar #8 ranked #8, Harbinger #7 ranked #9, and Bloodshot#6 ranked #10.

Yuma must collect all one hundred Numbers Cards in VIZ Media's Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal Volume 2 from VIZ Media, the best-selling Non-Premier Graphic Novel in December. In total, VIZ had four books in the top ten for the month. Bleach Volume 52 ranked #3, Bleach Volume 53 ranked #4, and Bleach Volume 54 ranked #5.

Valiant Entertainment's X-O Manowar Volume 1: By the Sword, collecting the first four issues of the Valiant relaunch, ranked #2.

Red 5 Comics' Atomic Robo: Real Science Adventures ranked #6.

BOOM! Studios' Adventure Time Volume 1 ranked #7.

Archie Comics' The Best of Sonic the Hedgehog Volume 1 ranked #8.

Kodansha Comics' Battle Angel Alita: Last Order Volume 16 ranked #9.

Finally, Rebellion's Judge Dredd: The Garth Ennis Collection ranked #10.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.

Data for Diamond’s sales charts — which include the monthly market shares and all top product charts — are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from a universe of over 3,500 accounts, comprised of comic book specialty shops and other merchant stores and buyers. The shops are primarily located in North America, with a percentage of sales also to international stores and buyers located throughout the world. The account base includes not only brick-and-mortar comic book specialty shops, but also Internet stores, chain stores, and other specialty stores.

Unit and dollars sales are calculated based upon orders invoiced and shipped to Diamond accounts during any given month, which comprises initial pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable

Please note that comics that were shipped to comic book retailers on December 28, 2012 with an on-sale date of January 2, 2013 were included in December's sales chart information.

About the Diamond Sales Index: The Sales Index of selected monthly Best Seller Charts is presented as a comparative tool for retailers and publishers. It presents Diamond’s monthly sales for individual titles in relation to Diamond’s total sales for the issue of DC Comics' monthly Batman comic book. (Batman is used as the control title — with a value of 100 — because sales of Batman usually remain relatively stable.) This allows for easy comparison to other titles and helps retailers gauge their orders for all other titles. This formula is only a guide, other factors may impact a titles’ ability to sell in certain locations and clientele.
