Staff Picks (January): Samurai #1
Dec 16, 2015
Japanese culture has a plethora of fantastic aspects to its rich history -- nobility, self discipline, honor -- but none are more stoic than the Samurai warriors.
Samurai #1 published by Titan Comics continues the epic fable created by Jean-François Di Giorgio and Frédéric Genêt, yet acts as a jumping on point for all readers. After defeating the dreaded Akuma, Takeo sets out to the isle with no name in search of answers to questions that plague his life. Where is his long lost brother? Is he even still alive? And what’s going on with that mysterious tattoo?
Genêt’s smooth, concentrated art is perfectly complimented by the lush use of colors. You’ll be blown away by every detail, from the beautiful swaying pink trees, to the all-too-real action riddled throughout the pages.
David Mack, fresh off of his work on Netflix’s Jessica Jones opening credits, provides a superb variant cover that cannot be passed up, symbolizing the graceful yet powerful demeanor of the samurai.
Coming in March, Samurai #1 is as bombastic as they come. Witness the rise of a warrior!
