My heart feels like an alligator! Those were the first words I saw when I opened an advance draft of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I'll admit, I'm a huge Hunter S. Thompson fan ("huge" is an understatement; my house is full of prints of artwork from various Thompson publications and I own an original poster from his run for sheriff of Aspen) and I was skeptical when I heard the book/movie that drove me to love writing was going to be adapted into a comic book/graphic novel. Any doubt I had about this project staying true to its source material and paying proper tribute to the good doctor has faded. I read the book with the sounds of Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro narrating in my head, and it's made the experience ever so enjoyable. The book is cartoony in a way Thompson intended the characters to be portrayed in a visual medium, and realistic enough that you feel like you're in the throes of the madness with Raoul and Dr. Gonzo. Fifty. Not shades of Grey. Fifty pages of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I've seen them. And I'm hooked.
