Staff Picks (June): Little Nemo's Big New Dreams
May 20, 2015
Recently, Locust Moon Press offered Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream, a tribute to the work of Winsor McKay as well as a showcase for many creators taking advantage of a format from the past and transfusing it with a modern perspective of comic strip storytelling.
While the true collector did not find the format and price a deterrent to adding that book to their collection, many new and young readers were not ready to commit to a book of that size and price.
TOON Books, a leader in graphic novels for the beginning and younger reader, in their TOON Graphic line is publishing Little Nemo's Big New Dreams. This edition is edited by Locust Moon Press’ Josh O'Neill, Andrew Carl, and Chris Stevens with forewords by Art Spiegelman and Francoise Mouly. With this edition, they have selected more than thirty glorious, unforgettable, or even silly dreams taking Nemo on a journey out of 1905 and, dream by dream, exploring the wild and wonderful world of today’s most imaginative comic book creators.
With creators such as R. Sikoryak, Craig Thompson, Yuko Shimizu, Mark Buckingham, Carla Speed McNeil, Box Brown, Jim Rugg, Gerhard, Roger Langridge and others, this book becomes one of the must haves from the folks at TOON Graphics. At a reasonable price of $16.95 and book shelf friendly 7 ¼ x 10 size, this collection is a must-read and a great introduction to the world of little Nemo.
