Meet Vesper Grey, and her friend Corrick. They are knee-deep in it. Vesper’s boring life quickly gets turned upside down when she meets the supernatural bodyguard she didn’t know she had, and they soon find themselves traveling the legendary Cowboy Country of the late 1800s in search of her father’s life work.
K. Lynn Smith doesn’t so much tell you a story as she does drop you in a world of her own. Not quite Western, verging on Steampunk, the characters are anachronistic to say the least, but the writing has such an effortless flow, it feels perfectly natural. Laid out in an almost storyboard style, Smith manages to be succinct while leaving action little to the imagination.
If you enjoy shows like Warehouse 13 or Sleepy Hollow or films like The Wild Wild West, this should be your next read.
