Publisher: Improper Books

Porcelain is the tale of a young street urchin known to us only as “Child.” She is pressed into committing an act of thievery by her fellow homeless and finds herself quickly over her head. The man whose house she is attempting to rob has discovered the alchemical secrets to animating porcelain. He can create life like servants, animals, and he created two vicious porcelain guard dogs named Gog and Magog which dispatch would be intruders.

The porcelain maker, entertained by her sharp wit, allows the girl to stay with him as a surrogate daughter. For the street urchin it is a paradise but will it stay a paradise if she breaks his only rule? She must not ever enter the door to his private workshop.

Porcelain: A Gothic Fairy Tale is Improper Book’s first title. It is a dark tale filled with magic and loss. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing by Benjamin Read and the artwork by Chris Wildgoose. This book is a must read, be sure to pick it up, and don’t forget the tea and cakes!
