Staff Picks (March 13): Dan Spiegle — Life In Comic Art SC

I can’t remember what the first Dan Spiegle book that I bought. If I liked a movie or TV show then I had to have the comic, and if it wasn't drawn by Alex Toth it was probably drawn by Dan Spiegle.  His storytelling was clean, neat and concise.

Years later I became much more interested in who was behind the books I bought. TwoMorrows Publishing's Dan Spiegle: Life in Comic Art lets us read about Dan's work from the days of the Hopalong Cassidy newspaper strip as well as his decade long run at Dell and Gold Key. The book also covers some of my favorite work of Dan’s -- Blackhawks, Nemesis, and The Unknown Soldier. Then in the eighties there was Crossfire from Eclipse, one of the best crime mystery series ever created.

If you enjoy comics that go beyond capes and spandex then this book will help you find treasures awaiting discovery in long boxes. Dan Spiegle deserves to be discovered by new readers just as much as the books he illustrated.
