Lucy Knisely has invited us all into her kitchen. Her real kitchen to be sure, as this graphic novel does include recipes sure to be on any foodie’s To-Do list, but also her memory-kitchen. Lucy’s very personal collection of nostalgic stories all tie in with her family’s tradition of cooking, dining, and sharing. Reading this book was like being invited in for a holiday dinner. Her work’s message is a simple one of cherishing friends, family, and experiences which loses nothing for being so straightforward. On the contrary, it feels warm, friendly, familiar, and new. It wraps the reader in a homey comfort like warm bread and satisfies like brilliant dinner conversation.
