Swords and sorcery adventures worthy of Robert E Howard, Michael Moorcock, and Fritz Leiber’s best stories are illustrated at a level few other than Alex Raymond, Hal Foster, Al Williamson, and Wally Wood have mastered.

With most of the book shot directly from Gray Morrow’s hand-colored original art this collection of his Orion strip that originally ran in Heavy Metal, Hermes Press' collection of Gray Morrow’s Orion is an excellent tribute to one of comics’ most underappreciated creators and demonstrates that Morrow belongs on the level of Raymond, Foster, and their peers.

Featuring stories by master storyteller and multiple Hugo nominee Gray Morrow, these stories feature Orion the Wanderer and Mamba the Mercenary take you to a world that Sinbad should inhabit and Harryhausen should be filming. Orion is cut from the same heroic cloth as Errol Flynn’s Captain Blood or Tyrone Power’s Zorro, and Gray manages to pull you into his stories much the way viewers were drawn into these movies.

Morrow's comics work was of a level few could maintain and I can't recommend it highly enough. I hope to see his Buck Rogers and Tarzan strips collected and look forward to adding Orion to my bookshelves right next to Insight Studios' Gray Morrow: Visionary.
