Running With The Devil In Sam Humphries' Citizen Jack
Aug 21, 2015
What better time for Sam Humphries to crank out a creator-owned work?
It's election time in America, in case you haven't noticed. A multitude of personalities are running around posing, jabbing, talking, and promising to do what they say is best for the country because that's the action line that gets people elected.
Would you ever vote for someone who says he's going to make your life a living hell? Not consciously, of courese. Who'd do that? But what if Mr. or Mrs. Vanilla who wrapped themselves in the American flag were actually pawns of Satan?
It would make for one "hell" of a news story, but it's actually now a full-color comic book brought to us by the same man who's served up titles like Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men: Black Vortex.
In the September PREVIEWS, you'll see that Sam Humphries has returned to creator-owned work with artist Tommy Patterson on a new horror-themed political comedy titled Citizen Jack. It's a feel-good story that's...well, not really. It's about a politician that kneels to a malevolent demon with high ambitions. So, hey! Grab popcorn and soda to watch the world burn to the ground as someone cues up "Hail To the Chief." What better way to get in the mood for casting a ballot?
”My fellow Americans, we’ve all had the experience of following politics and having one of two reactions: screaming in terror, or laughing to stop the screaming,” says Humphries. “In that sense, Citizen Jack is the Great American Comic Book.”
Patterson has added, "My excitement for Citizen Jack corresponds with my fright of and amusement at our current system. When you peel back the layers of our modern day world you'll find some shadowy figures pulling strings. Once you see it you can't look away."
