5 New Mini-Series from DC Comics to Kick Off Your New Year

Looking for a new comic to read? DC Comics has five new miniseries kicking off in January that are available to pre-order in the November PREVIEWS.

Miniseries allow for publishers to have writers work on characters for a short amount of time, and these talents' spins on the characters we know are almost always unique.

More importantly, it's a great place to get into a character with issue #1!

Let's take a closer look at these new titles:

Swamp Thing #1 (NOV150169) may be generating the most buzz of the group, as it sees Len Wein returning to the character that he created (with Bernie Wrightson) back in 1971!

In the mean time Wein has kept busy, writing on a vast array of series, and winning just as many awards. But Wein can't stray too far from one of his first creations, Swamp Thing.

So, Wein is certainly a legend, but he can't do it all alone! Kelley Jones is the artist for the miniseries and his resume is just as impressive. He is known primarily for his extensive work on Batman, including such iconic story lines as Knightfall and Contagion. He also lent his hand to many issues of Neil Gaiman's Sandman.

When Swamp Thing recieves a dark warning from an unknown party, he is forced to square off against forces of dark magic, but is it all a set up for something bigger?

With talent like this involved, how could you miss the new Swamp Thing?

The second miniseries, Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death #1 (NOV150166), is equally exciting, though in a different way.

Poison Ivy has been around since 1966, when she appeared in Batman #181, but she has never had her own series, until now! Poison Ivy will be led by the writing talents of Amy Chu, who arrived on the DC scene with Sensation Comics featuring Wonder Woman. Clay Mann will be handling the drawing duties for the series. He has drawn striking covers for Batman: Eternal and more for DC.

This intriguing Gotham City story about Dr. Pamely Isley attempting to solve a murder that it seems she may have committed will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final page! Fans of the Bat-verse will not want to miss out on this one!

Both Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death and Swamp Thing are featured on the FlipSide of the November PREVIEWS as Gems of the Month!

The Legend of Wonder Woman #1 (NOV150164) is written and drawn by Renae De Liz, who is the creator of The Last Unicorn!

This 9 issue series follows a very young Diana in her Amazonian home, showing us how she became the strong warrior we see her today. She will have to learn form Amazonian Queen Hippolytia, and her mother, if she wants to make it in this tough world!

We all know the vauge outline of Wonder Woman's origin, but you've never seen it like this before. This detailed account of how Diana became the woman she's known as today is a revealing and exciting read!

Green Lantern: The Lost Army was a huge hit, but it left some unanswered questions. Luckily, Green Lantern Corps: Edge of Oblivion #1 (NOV150162) is here for just that.

The miniseries picks up where the Lost Army left off. The Green Lantern Corps is reunited, but they're far from home, and not everyone in the universe is that friendly.

Written by Tom Taylor, an extraordinary writer, also known for his work on the Video game, Injustice: Gods Among us. The series is drawn by Ethan Van Sciver, who previously drew Superman/Batman and Green Lantern. This tense tale of survival and the journey home should not be missed.

It's a bad day for the Suicide Squad's handler, Amanda Waller, when two of her prisoners who double as soldiers escape.

Well, that's exactly what she's going to have to deal with in Suicide Squad Most Wanted: Deadshot/Katana #1 (NOV150168)!

Deadshot is on the run, taking on a series of new contracts, and re-establishing himself as the world's most deadly marksman. But what will Floyd Lawton do if he has to come face to face with Lex Luthor? Will he be able to carry out the hit, or will he be stopped?

It looks like Len Wein isn't the only one heading back to a character he co-created, as Mike W. Barr handles the Katana side of things, returning to the character he co created (with the legendary Jim Aparo)!

Katana is attempting to save the entire country, but she'll only be able to if she can maintain her own sword, which seems intent on taking control! Looking for action packed excitement? This is the miniseries for you!

These stories and more from DC comics will be on shelves at your local comic shop in January.

Until then, keep an eye on PREVIEWSworld for all things DC Comics.
