The 14th issue of Monsters from the Vault kicks off
with a look at Universal Studio's legendary makeup artist, Jack P. Pierce.
Pierce is featured on the cover applying makeup to Boris Karloff on the set of
The Mummy, and an ultra-rare TV interview (courtesy of Bob Burns) from
the 1960s is featured within the pages, along with plenty of rare photographs.
Keeping with the rare TV interview theme, a 1963 appearance by Boris Karloff and
Peter Lorre on the Hy Gardner Show (to promote AIP's The Raven),
and a rare appearance of Lon Chaney, Jr. (from his home) on Here's
Hollywood, are transcribed for your reading enjoyment. Also, Gary Don Rhodes
examines "The Horror Crisis of 1932" -- when the horror film almost met an early
demise. Finally, Steve Kronenberg completes his epic series, "The
Cinematographers of Horror's Golden Age," with "Deliver Us to Evil Part IV," and
Mark Clark wraps up his study of "Forgotten Universals," with his look at some
of the studio's output from the 1940s that has yet to see the light of day on
home video. All this, plus editorial comments, letters, DVD reviews, book
reviews, and more than 100 photos, make Monsters from the Vault the
publication for "Monster Lovers" everywhere! Magazine, 80pg,
