FANFARE presents PONENT MON

(W) Natsuo Sekikawa (A/CA) Jiro Taniguchi
by Natsuo Sekikawa & Jiro Taniguchi
Soseki Natsume was established as a great author with the publication of the tales of Botchan. It is the 42nd year of the Meiji Period, a year in which the man who is considered the first modern author of Japan, Futabatei Shimei, dies, and the Surgeon General, Mori Ogai, holds poetry readings. This moral tale of Japan's awakening into the modern world shows the clash between an individual's person freedom and the traditional social conventions of the time. With the artistic talents of Taniguchi (The Walking Man), and a solid script by Sekikawa, this is a true insight of Japanese society towards the end of the Meiji Period.
