Grab Back With A New RESIST! Free Comic Anthology

Legendary comics editor Françoise Mouly, along with her daughter, writer Nadja Spiegelman, is once again blazing new territory with a political comics and graphics zine that is unabashedly progressive, diverse, and radical: the RESIST! Free Comic Anthology (APR178157) from RAW Books and Graphics.

Over the past months, Mouly and Spiegelman harnessed the rage and despair of the current political moment into a collective creative endeavor. They released nearly 60,000 copies of their first issue as a free political tabloid in time for the Women’s marches in January 2017.

Their goals: combine the democratic nature of the Internet to solicit work from all over the world and assemble a grassroots network of volunteers and local comic books shops to distribute the printed product for free.

The second issue of RESIST!, a comic book-sized, 96-page anthology of comics and cartoons, will be handed out during the July 4 weekend by volunteers and in the comic shops who preorder it. Funded entirely by these supporters and with contributing artists waiving monetary compensation, the free distribution of RESIST! is intended as an Independence Day celebration of the First Amendment, of diversity and of resilience. The zine combines some of the biggest names in comics (Roz Chast, Kristin Radtke, Miriam Katin, Cathy Malkasian, Laura Park, Lauren Weinstein, Daniel Clowes, Art Spiegelman and many more) with powerful work by new names, some never-before-published.

“We watched this issue take shape like a photo appearing in the developer,” said Mouly. When looking through the thousands of images they had received, the editors couldn’t help but notice, and then embrace, the anger of many of them.

“The theme of the second issue, ‘Grab Back!,’ says it all: Women are angry,” added Nadja Spiegelman. “They’re not afraid to say it. And they don’t plan on staying silent any longer.”

Published under the slogan “Women’s Voices Will be Heard,” and containing work by mostly female artists, RESIST! bursts with energy, humor and anger.

Look for it on July 4th weekend at a comic shop near you!
