Staff Pick (August12): The Frazetta Sketchbook HC
Jul 22, 2012
Tarzan, Conan, and Death Dealer are just some of the characters brought to life and defined by the talents of Frank Frazetta. Whether right handed or left, his ability to draw buxom beauties and muscular barbarians showed us why Frank Frazetta is considered the premiere illustrator coming out of comic books.
Planned shortly before his death, The Frazetta Sketchbook features the largest selection of previously unpublished Frazetta ever collected in book form. This is a chance to see rare, unpublished EC Came The Dawn art; painting preliminaries of his famous barbarians, babes, and beasts; pen and ink sketches, pencil drawings; unpublished nude life drawings done in the EC days with his "Fleagle Gang" pals Al Williamson, Angelo Torres, Ralph Mayo; and more.
Design by Randall Dahlk, winner of an Eisner for his design work on IDW’s The Rocketeer, this book will be a welcome addition to your library of books featuring classic fantasy and comic book art.
I’ll even be splurging on the PREVIEWS Exclusive edition with the additional 16 pages of material not available in the standard hardcover and reserving room for it on my shelves right by Vanguard’s White Indian and Johnny Comet hardcovers.
